I set up camp a little early here, because dark clouds were flowing through the valley at a surprising speed. I had to answer the call of nature in the middle of the night, and as I exited the shelter, I discovered that I was IN a cloud with hardly any visibility. I've never been in anything this thick. The light from my headlamp seemed to reflect straight back into my eyes and made it hard to see. Within a few steps, the shelter behind me nearly vanished from sight. I decided I wasn't going a single step further to do my thing! It was extremely disorienting, and a sickening thought struck me as to what it might feel like to become lost and unable to find my way back to my shelter and warm gear. As I was snugging back up in my mummy bag, I heard the "neighing" of one of the wild ponies. I remember thinking, "Surely they've bedded down and aren't still wondering around in this!" Neat experience!!
